Shrikhand Mahadev Trek Itinerary
Day 1: Base at Jaon Village
-Arrive in Jaon, the official starting point of the yatra. Acclimatization and night stay.
Day 2: Jaon to Thachdu (Approx. 12 km)
-The climb begins with steep ascents through thick forests. Overnight camping at Thachdu.
Day 3: Thachdu to Bhim Dwar (via Kali Ghati)
-This stretch includes challenging terrain and altitude gain. Kali Ghati is a sacred and difficult pass. Overnight at Bhim Dwar.
Day 4: Bhim Dwar to Shrikhand Mahadev Peak and back to Bhim Dwar
-Early morning summit to the Shrikhand Mahadev Shivling, offer prayers, and return by evening.
Day 5: Return trek to Jaon
-Descend with caution. Celebrations and conclusion of the Yatra.
Mythology and Legends of Shrikhand Mahadev
Legend says that Bhasmasur, a demon blessed with the power to burn anyone by placing his hand on their head, chased Lord Shiva. To escape, Shiva came to Shrikhand and hid among the peaks. Finally, Lord Vishnu tricked Bhasmasur and ended the threat, bringing peace to the area.
Since then, Shrikhand Mahadev is regarded as a spiritual battlefield turned sanctuary, where divine power overcame evil, and Lord Shiva revealed his towering form.
Best Time to Visit Shrikhand Mahadev
The only accessible time is during the official Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra, which occurs in July to mid-August. Attempting the trek outside this window is extremely dangerous due to snow and avalanche risks.
How to Reach Shrikhand Mahadev
By Air: Nearest airport is Bhuntar, approx. 160 km from Jaon.
By Rail: Shimla or Chandigarh are the nearest railway stations.
By Road: Regular buses and taxis are available from Shimla, Rampur, and Nirmand to Jaon village.
Note: This trek is strictly for those with high-altitude trekking experience or who undergo physical training in advance.
